Help keep sick kids and their families together

When a child is in hospital, families don’t just visit, families stay. And we stay with them.

Meet some of our families

Meet Aubrey and her family

Aubrey was only 15 months old when she was diagnosed with a Teratoma tumour. After being turned away from hospitals three times, her family was flown straight to Sydney, leaving their home behind with no idea where they would live or how they would cope.

For 193 nights and counting, Ronald McDonald House Sydney has been their safe haven. For her parents, it’s a place where the weight is lifted, where they can get a hot, home-cooked meal and focus entirely on looking after their baby girl.

“Ronald McDonald House Sydney is a friendly, safe, secure place to stay while going through the toughest situation in life.”

For Aubrey, it’s a place where she can just be a kid, playing outside with her toy trucks and her family right by her side.

Meet Luke and his family

After a devastating accident on the Princes Highway, teenage Luke and his family turned to Ronald McDonald House Sydney while he recovered from life-changing injuries. Luke was hit by a car after getting off his school bus and has since undergone multiple surgeries, including the amputation of his right foot. As he focuses on rehabilitation and learning to walk with a prosthetic foot, the House has given his family a place to stay close together during an incredibly difficult time.

For the family, the House has eased daily pressures by providing meals, practical support and moments of normality. It has helped them laugh again, rebuild confidence and find comfort when hospital appointment and worry feel overwhelming.

With a safe place to shower, share a meal, talk when ready and simply breathe, Luke’s family can stay close and focus on his recovery.
